Inside Our Coverage Area

If you’re traveling away from home but still within Avera Health Plans' service area, which includes South Dakota and parts of Iowa, you can access many in-network providers and facilities—even if it’s not your usual doctor or clinic. Be sure to log into the member portal before or during your travels to find in-network options.

Outside Our Coverage Area

  • If you need immediate medical care, but are outside of the Avera Health Plans service area, your member ID card has instructions for notifying us.
  • When it's medically appropriate, arrangements may be made for you to transfer to the care of an in-network provider in order for you to receive benefits at the lowest cost.
  • It's important to note that you may be required to pay for medical services at the time they're provided, but you'll be reimbursed for any covered services.
